Political Involvement

Salim has never had any political involvement while in UAE or even in Libya. Salim supported the revolution in Libya and its transition to democracy, like millions of Libyans. He supported opposition groups that toppled Colonel Mu’ammer al-Gaddafi. The world was in support of the revolution. The UAE fully supported the revolution and Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Charity and Abu Dhabi Khairia Charity both supplied medical treatment and humanitarian aid to Libya.

Salim has a brother, Abdelrazag Alaradi, who resides in Libya and is politically active. During the revolution, his brother was appointed to the National Transitional Council (NTC) which was responsible to assist Libya in transitioning to a democratically elected government. However, Salim was not in Libya during the revolution or post-revolution and did not actively participate in this process. Salim has no political affiliations.

Today Libya is experiencing a sensitive political climate due to a divide in government between a more recent elected body (HoR) which has been resolved by Supreme Court ruling, and the previously elected body (GNC). The UAE has chosen to support the HoR groups.  The crackdown on arrests in the UAE of foreigners is widely seen politically motivated to place pressure on the Tripoli based government which the UAE does not support.
