There are no allegations against Salim or others who have been detained, and he has not been charged with a crime despite being held in custody for over 230 days. This has been confirmed by the Canadian authorities.

Despite certain safeguards in the UAE Constitution and laws, Salim’s rights upon arrest have been disregarded. This is common in the cases where the State Security Agency (SSA) is involved.

Salim’s detainment has not been carried out in accordance with the domestic or equivalent international standards, such as the right not to be imprisoned without an arrest warrant, a right to contest the detention before an independent judicial authority, a right to have access to a lawyer and a right not to be held in incommunicado detention.
