The Libyan Association for Victims of Torture and Enforced Disappearance in the UAE
Statement
Will the UAE judiciary give justice to the Libyan businessmen after nearly two years of suffering?
“The Libyan Association for Victims of Torture and Enforced Disappearance in the UAE”, as well as all the supporters for their cause: activists, legal experts, human rights organizations, humanitarian international officials, and civil organizations – and above all the Human Rights Council of the United Nations, are all closely monitoring the verdict that will be issued by the Federal Supreme Court in the UAE tomorrow Monday, May 30th, 2016; confirm the following:
1) The expat detainees are innocent of all charges filed against them, based on the fact that those charges are related to the internal affairs of Libya, and that their innocence is confirmed by affidavits, testimonials and supporting documents, including certificates issued by the Libyan Attorney General’s office, the Libyan legislative authorities, Ministers of Defense, Interior and local governments, a number of municipalities and local councils, as well as the Chamber of Commerce and others. The defense has also made a strong and coherent legal argument that was included in the case file to be considered by the judges of the Court.
2) Our cause is a humanitarian and fair cause, witnessed by the entire world, aimed to free the detainees and bring them back safely to their families. Therefore, the Association reinforces its approach, which was adopted from the first day of detention, not to politicize this matter and keep it in its humanitarian and legal framework.
3) We rely on God, Almighty, and on the judges to give the right verdict, and issue the right judgment, so justice takes its course. We hope that the judges of the Federal Supreme Court sentence with innocence, the same as they did with Moaz Al-Hashemi and Adel Nasif’s case.
4) We hope that tomorrow would be a day of justice and fairness, a day of truth, a day to heal the wounds and end the pain, a day to end the suffering of the families, which has lasted more than twenty-one months.
And Allah is predominant over His affair, but most of the people do not know.
